The Gamma Ray Spectroscope is a Portable, Hand Held device which is
used for detecting the presence and concentration of Radio-Active Elements in open areas. It can be used for prospecting for deposits of various types of radio-active elements.
It weighs less than Two kilograms including the Detector and Batteries. The enclosure is made of Aluminium. The core processing is rendered by an AD 2116x series of DSP's.The design incorporates a touch keypad, back light LCD display, Power and Charging circuitry, Diagnostics all in portable packaging, defined jointly by the customer and Epsilon. Epsilon, was mandated by a leading Space Research lab, to realize a programmable, modular -DSP based BSD. Considering the sampling requirements and processing constraint, an architecture using a combination of FPGA and DSP were employed to realize the customer specified goals. A compact solution in terms of 3U (100mm X 160mm) physical form factor, with power supply, on-board anti-aliasing filters, Flash memory for standlone useage, JTAG for debugging and Serial connect for host interface were among the key attributes of this design. The solution uses a AD 2116x family of DSP and a Xilinx FPGA for real-time processing. For a more detailed app note, please write to us.
